Premier's Design Awards 2016

The Premier’s Design Awards brings Victoria’s design community together to recognise and reward the state’s designers and businesses working in architectural design, service design, industrial and product design, communication design, digital design, design strategy, fashion design and student design.

After entries were carefully considered by a judging panel of leading design thinkers, the awards were held last Thursday at Melbourne’s iconic NGV, the National Gallery of Victoria, under the under the stunning stained glass ceiling of the Great Hall.

The night was opened by the Minister for Creative Industries Hon Martin Foley, then the ‘Best in Category’ awards were announced before the overall Premier’s Design Award of the year was awarded.

And the winner is...

Oi, the Knog Bike Bell designed by Melbourne product design consultancy Catalyst took out the overall award, the top honour for design and innovation. The bell is a revolutionary take on the traditional bike bell. Typically bicycle bells are domed and protrude from the handle, often with a bracket holding it off the handlebars. The Oi bell wraps around the handlebar so that it doesn’t take up too much valuable space and makes an often forgotten product a beautiful and low profile addition to any bicycle. Congratulation to the team at Catalyst!

Larktale + Bayly Group chit chat stroller

We’re excited to announce that our stroller, chit chatTM, designed for Modernstar as part of their new Larktale brand, was a finalist in this years awards. Although we didn’t take home the prize, Bayly is really excited to have been involved with the design of this innovative stroller design. The stroller ticks all the boxes for good stroller design - lightweight, compact, maneuverable, strong, safe and stylish. Our design director regularly takes his daughter to the local market in theirs and has no problems navigating through the bustling crowd. The design is unique due to its “SpaceFrame” technology that uses an injection moulded, recyclable nylon and fiber blend in all the main parts of the stroller frame. This makes it one of the few strollers on the market that doesn’t use metal to reinforce the frame. The stroller is strong and light, and can be quickly folded and lifted with one hand.
